Dear Old Police Cells Museum Subscribers.

We are thrilled to announce that the museum will open again in Spring 2026.

As you may already know, the museum has been closed to the public since 2023. This was initially due to staffing and funding issues, and then subsequently due to a health and safety concern. I am happy to say that both challenges are now behind us.

During our closure, we have been busy planning a new fresh look for the male cells, which will incorporate new cabinets, interpretations, and a new layout telling the story of Sussex Police. We will then work on the female cells as our stage 2.

Our ambition is simple: to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable story of policing in Sussex, with a focus on the Town Hall and the holding cells in particular.

There are many fantastic policing museums around the UK, and we intend to be up there with the best of them.

For now, myself, volunteers, and other key people will be getting everything ready, so that we can open our doors to visitors, school groups and the police community in the county and beyond again.

We will of course communicate further information, via our website, socials, and directly to our subscribers.
